SBRT Radiation Treatment in Southern California

Also known as stereotactic ablative radiotherapy, SBRT administers high doses of radiation to cancerous areas in the body, using linear accelerator machines to administer radiation beams. SBRT is used to treat tumors that exist outside of the central nervous system (CNS). It is similar to conventional radiation therapy in its method of delivering treatment, but SBRT is designed to only involve one or just a few treatment sessions instead of several. SBRT applies a higher dose of radiation to the tumor, which means fewer treatments will be necessary.

Two-year success rates for conventional radiation treatment are 30-40%, while SBRT success rates are 80-90%. Furthermore, SBRT has been shown to have fewer side effects. This treatment is commonly used for patients who have small tumors in the lungs, pancreas, liver, kidney, or prostate. It is also a highly-recommended alternative for patients who cannot have surgery or who would be put at great risk in surgery.

Our state-of-the-art imaging technology will help us find the location of your tumors and prepare our machines for accurate targeting of the cancerous areas. Each SBRT session lasts for about 30-60 minutes and typically does not exceed ten days in total.
