External Beam
External beam radiation therapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses energy to destroy cancerous cells. Typically, X-rays are used, however other forms of energy can be effective.
As its name implies, radiation is administered externally — a machine will aim beams of energy at the part of your body affected by cancer. By destroying or damaging the genetic material that controls how cells grow and divide, radiation therapy can slow or stop the reproduction of cancerous cells.
Brachytherapy
Unlike external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy involves the direct, internal application of small doses of radiation. Through specially designed catheters, we can place radiation in a natural cavity or directly into the tumor itself.
Depending on the size, location, and type of tumor you have, radiation can take as little as 10 minutes to complete. Typically, we’ve found that anywhere between three to 10 treatments are required. Brachytherapy can also be used alone or in addition to external beam radiation therapy.
Rotating Gamma Therapy
Rotating Gamma Technology™ is used to safely and effectively perform noninvasive brain surgery. During treatment, radioactive sources will rotate and circle around your head, emitting radiation. Thanks to its helmet-free design, we’re able to speed up patient treatment and accurately target tumors and lesions within the brain.
Most importantly, we can control the level of radiation being emitted throughout your treatment, meaning we’ll reduce the dosage level once healthy tissue is detected.
